Simplicity Begins Where Resistance Ends

By Sivasankar Venkatakrishnan (oshovenkat)

We often think life is simple. And in truth, it is simple. But the moment we try to hold on to that simplicity, life suddenly appears complex and heavy. It is as if life is reminding us that simplicity is not something to be held tightly. It is something to be lived, to be flowed with, moment by moment.

I have come to understand this through my own experiences. I no longer try to control what happens. I simply accept what life offers — whether it is joy, pain, success, failure, love, or loss. I do not label these as good or bad. I see them all as experiences — gifts from life itself, from time, from God, from nature, or from the great unknown. It doesn’t matter what name we give it. What matters is how we receive these experiences.

When we are awake — truly awake — every moment becomes sacred. Each moment, whether sweet or bitter, is part of the flow of existence. Time offers us these experiences, one after another, like waves that rise and fall. Some waves bring joy, and we smile. Some waves bring sorrow, and we feel pain. But both waves belong to the same ocean of life.

These days, when life gives me a joyful moment, I watch it closely. I silently ask myself, Why is time offering me this joy now? And when life brings me pain or difficulty, I try to stay just as awake. I remind myself: This too is just an experience. This too shall pass. In this way, I no longer feel trapped by sadness when hard times come. I no longer cling to happiness when it arrives. I simply witness — as if I am watching the dance of life unfold.

This is the secret of making life simple: Stop struggling against what is. Stop asking life to be only joyful, or only peaceful. Let life be what it is, and flow with it. When we stop fighting life, life becomes simple. When we stop asking “Why me?” and start saying “Let it be,” we find peace.

Life is always simple. It is our mind that makes it seem difficult.
